Afternoon 7-25-10

This morning the doctor (weekend coverage) made the decision to make a change in Guy's treatment. With this change they are hoping to be able to reduce the amount of sedative he is being given. The goal is that he will be able to wake up and participate better in the neurological assessment and be weaned off some of the pain medicine. It will take a little time to see result.

I can only compare this experience it to trying to put together a nine piece puzzle in which there is only one way to make all the pieces fit together and getting down to only one piece left and it not fitting, so you start switching pieces. Eventally they will all fit.

Prayers for Guy
God's will be done
Overall Healing of Guy's body
the new plan has the results that the doctor intended
consistant neurological assessment results
get off the ventalator

Prayers for the family and myself
continued strength and patients

For Haley, Hannah, and Canton
Have fun with Granny at Bible School!

I am very thankful for the abundance of love poured out on me in the way of snack food. So many things have been brought to us that it would take a year for us to put away that much snack food. There is a family sitting across the waiting room from Florida, including about 3-4 families with 3 children. One of their family members, a 27 year old young man, was in a motorcycle accident. Today some of our abandance was passed on to them and they were very appreciative. And not to worry we still have plenty to sustain us a while, as well :)

Love to all-Keep praying!

  1. Vicki,
I just returned from a trip and found that I can be updated on Guy's recovery and how you are doing. This is great that you can do this without having to answer so many calls/texts, etc. individually. Anyway, it has now been a week since this happened. I am thinking back to what happened just a short week ago has changed your life so dramatically. I am praying the prayers you have asked for and also some of my own for you and Guy. We love you.

  2. Vicki,

Your writing could squeeze payer from a bronze bust. Guy is blessed to have *you* as his warrior. He would admire your reporting.

We are checking your post everyday to update our prayers. You are doing a great job as wife and showing your girls how to serve their husbands someday. Sincerely, Dallion

  4. Thank you all for the kind words. Today has been my toughest day emotionally for many reasons. One week ago today things started spinning and today I just felt dizzy.
Tomorrow is a new day, and I plan a run after my 4-5am visit with the nurse.
Don't worry loved ones, I will take it easy, just a stress releaving jog in the park.

    Keep praying!

  5. Vicki,
I check on you guys different times during the day and love how you can communicate with all of us without us having to bother you with texts and calls. I think you know you are loved and prayed for from our family, but I just wanted to encourage your kiddos at VBS and remind them that "My God is so big, so strong, and so mighty! There's nothing my God can not do!"

  6. Vicki,

This is a verse I leaned on for comfort and a clear head.

Be joyful in hope, patient in affliction, faithful in prayer.
    Romans 12:12

We are all doing this with you and your family

  8. Hannah was in my Bible School group tonight at Freeman Heights. The kids made a prayer box during craft time. They put prayer request in their box after it was finished. All of the kids put Guy in their box along with their own request. I told Hannah that she looked like her mom when she was her age and she quickly told me that she did but with freckles!! Too cute. She is precious. I am thankful that I will get to share and love on her this week!!
    Love you,
    Clarise

  9. Enjoyed having Canton in VBS tonight. He wore his cowboy hat and had a good time. Cody worked in his class, too, so he liked that. He mentioned his dad in prayer in his craft he made tonight. That might be supposed to be a surprise, though. Praying for you all.

  10. Vicki,

I just can't get you, Guy, and the kids off of my mind. Wish there was something I could do. I live in Springfield now. If you ever need to get out for a few minutes, call or text me and I'd be happy to give you a little escape. When things become less "minute to minute," if you want to bring the kids over for a swim, I have a pool now!

Unfortunately, I have spent far too much time in the hospital with my father and I know how draining and upsetting it can be. You know, this year has been a horrific one for me, and I haven't had to deal with nearly what you have. It seems like just about everything in my life went horribly wrong. I haven't always handled it well, but I can say without a doubt that I've never felt God more strongly in my life, even through all of this pain. In some weird way, there is beauty in suffering, although you really do have to look hard to see it.

Let the Holy Spirit comfort and guide you. Just roll with it, trust that you'll have guidance every minute that you need it, and take care of yourself.

Please, call or text any time. I'm happy to bring you a drink from Sonic, meet you for a walk (I can't run!!) or have you come over for a time out of the hospital.

  11. Vicki and family,
The two small steps taken today (removal of the chest tube and lowering the sedative)sound very promising. Our family continues to keep all of you in our prayers, and as I am sure happened in all of the Bolivar area, Guy was lifted up in special prayer at our church this morning (Sacred Heart). We, too, appreciate the specific prayer requests, and check the blog twice a day for them.
I am so glad that you were able to see the kids yesterday and know that you treasured every minute of their visit. How are Haley's driving lessons with PaPa going? Is she a pro yet?
Take care, hugs to all, and God Bless!

  12. Vicki,
I just now seen on the scoreboardguy site what has happened.I do not know Guy personally.I have followed his site for a few years and appreciate what he does. His father was my defensive coach in high school and a great one at that.Easy to see why he has a great son as well.I was reading psalm 46 this week and it is great you are looking to God for your source of strength.I will be praying for Guy and your family.Brent

  13. I so appreciate the words of comfort and the stories about our kids. I am glad that they all went to Bible School, they are in the church I grew up in and around wonderful people who will love them. Keep sending me the stories, they are a touch of home.

    Keep Praying!

  14. Vicki,
As I was reading this morning this verse came to me. I've found comfort in it and know you will too:

"You give power to the faint, and to me who has no might You increase strength. Even the youths will faint and be weary, and the young men shall utterly fall; but I wait upon You, Lord, and shall renew my strength. I shall mount up with wings as eagles; I shall run and not be weary; and I shall walk and not faint." Isiah 40:31

Know that we are praying without ceasing and that your family is in someone's prayers at all times---and stay strong in that knowledge.

    Verna
